Louise has been a musician since she was small, learning piano from age
6 and singing in a Church choir from age 7. She studied Music and French
at Reading University, specialising in performance. She studied conducting at the Conservatoire de Pau
in the south of France during her year abroad,
and returned to direct the Reading University Singers for two years. Whilst at University she was also the organiser of the Lunchtime Concert Series which took
place most weeks during term-time.
Having graduated, Louise took the position of Organist and Choir Director
at St John's Church in Crowthorne, and later moved to the same position at Christ Church,
Reading where she spent five happy years with a lovely choir. She started Tamesis in 2003 and has
hugely enjoyed watching it grow into exactly the sort of choir she hoped for at the beginning! She is also
the director of the Tamesis Cathedral Singers, an occasional choir which sings Cathedral Evensongs
twice a year and a gorgeous Nine Lessons and Carols each year at Medmenham Church. She is much in
demand as a deputy conductor, and enjoys the challenge of stepping in when other choir directors are
indisposed - in this way, she conducts Reading Gay Chorus, Goring Chamber Choir, Wantage Choral Society
and the Twyford Singers a couple of times each term.
Louise works full-time at Shiplake College, teaching piano, playing the organ and administrating
all sorts of things. As part of her work there she runs the Junior Choir and the Chamber Choir, and a
couple of years ago she started the Shiplake Community Choir,
a choir for singers of all ages and abilities
which is going from strength
to strength and is great fun.
